The concept of conquering all the great tidal bores of the world is not only to surf, but to experience the local cultures that surround each of the rivers. Living in the local environment for a set of tides, the bore riders hope to learn the history and myths of each bore, and to understand the spiritual significance revered to the tides. The question of how many bores around the world are actually surfable is not easily answerable. For many rivers information on the quality of the wave has not been made available, but with perserverance the bore riders hope to annually add another region to the list.

So, in September 2001, a small band of the Severn Surfers commenced a lifetime ambition of surfing as many of the world's tidal bores as possible. Leaving behind the familiar banks of the River Severn, and with the knowledge that they would miss a strong set of tides, the Wizard, Silver Surfer and Twinkle Toes set off for the Gironde estuary on Sunday 16th September.
